Myofascial release (MFR) is a special type of massage which targets specific parts of our bodies that are affected by toxin buildup, reduced blood flow and oxygen. It helps in reducing tightness. Myofascial release applies sustained pressure to stretch & lengthen the fascia of the muscle. Unlike massage, MFR does not use oils or lubricants
The main difference between massage & MFR is the mode of administration. Massage is usually done on the general body area while MFR focuses on specific areas.
What is this Fascia?
Fascia is a structure that surrounds our muscles, blood vessels & nerves. It is made up of collagen, elastin, and a liquid component called ground substance. It provides structure to our muscles. If we didn’t have fascia, we wouldn’t have shape! Long periods of restricted posture will result in tightening and shortening of the fascial tissue.
